I got the influence for the design from Alphonse Mucha. I learned about him from the history of illustration class in my sophomore year. Looking at Mucha's paintings influenced my layout and design for this assignment.
I chose the poem because I was working on another illustration that depicted Crouse College as the topic. This haiku project gave me an opportunity to explore an alternative way to handle the same subject matter.
